Myth of the Tour de France – La Grande Boucle in the NRW Forum

Mythos Tour de France – La Grande Boucle im NRW-Forum

Next weekend, one of the program items in the run-up to the Düsseldorf Grand Départ, which we in the cap are looking forward to, will start with the exhibition "Mythos Tour de France" in the NRW Forum. Certainly a must-attend event for all cycling aficionados, but also an opportunity for art and culture enthusiasts to approach the subject of cycling in a familiar environment.

As part of the city's "Bonjour Le Tour" campaign, the NRW Forum has already proven that there are ways to get creative and think outside the box when it comes to the subject of bicycles. The FREE BIKES campaign initiated together with the Denk3000 creative office was and is a successful appeal to all of us to deal with the topics of urban mobility/sustainability/ownership.

And now the greatest cycling race of all time, the Tour de France, is coming to the NRW Forum. Installations, films and photographs, from oversized landscape panoramas to haunting portraits, 120 works by 20 artists illuminate the topic of tours from a wide variety of perspectives. We look forward to the works of local artists such as Andreas Gursky, Reinhard Mucha, Kai Schäfer and Philipp Hympendahl, to the haunting Flandrien portraits by Stephan Vanfleteren, to the pictures by Robert Capa, Harry Gruyaert, Timm Kölln and Olaf Unverzart. Louis Malle's very special "Vive le Tour" documentary from 1962, a multimedia installation based on Kraftwerk's "Tour De France" cover and Paul Smith's collection of Tour jerseys.

In addition, a wide variety of activities and campaigns accompany the "Mythos Tour de France" exhibition, from Rapha's pop-up store to themed photo books - and "Pimp your bike" workshops to a series of excursions that we take together with Invite Rapha in June. Details on this will follow soon.

IMPORTANT: The FREE-BIKES campaign continues. We will soon be offering a small cooperation in the form of a limited edition hat to fund consumables. And if you still have one or the other simple bike in the shed or basement that is eking out a pointless existence, bring it to the NRW Forum. Free rental bikes for the whole city are created here.
