Skateboards and bicycles free you, expand your range of motion, put you in a good mood and blow the wind in your hair. If you fall, the wallpaper is off, whether it's off the bike or the board. Both have to do with good posture and movement, sometimes even with attitude, philosophy of life and lifestyle. The subculture of the skate scene was ahead from the start, thanks to the Z-Boys, but among the cyclists, at least the BMX and MTB scenes have always been open to alternative influences. Slowly but surely, the walls of the roadies are also crumbling, the young fixed gear community is helping immensely with a breath of fresh air. More and more non-conformists and freethinkers are taking over the rudder in the dusty sport of cycling, quite a few of whom have been on the board for years. A circumstance that we feel, like and support in the cap. The film "Push to pedal" and the cooperation between the American workwear and streetwear label Carhartt and the committed Finnish bike label Pelago are just right...
In 2013, Carhartt WIP, which has always been closely associated with the international skateboard scene, invited bike frame builders and skaters from their own team to a trip to Fuerteventura. A week of cycling, skating and philosophizing, documented by a film crew. The frame builders, themselves active or former skaters, built bikes for the protagonists to their liking beforehand, giving even a run-down city slut a new lease of life. For Carhartt WIP and the fine Finnish bike manufacturer Pelago, this excursion and the resulting film "Push to Pedal" was the beginning of a closer cooperation.
In August 2016, the first results of this cooperation are coming: a Pelago single-speeder with wide tires, front luggage rack and a green hammer finish, known from all old tool boxes, as well as a clothing line for today's city cyclists. With a functional jacket, t-shirts, beanies and a Mission Workshop bag that looks good both on the front rack and on the back of the driver.
While Pelago's special bike model is sold exclusively through Carhartt, there are local partnerships with small independent bike shops that take care of service and inspections. And it's a welcome opportunity to deal with Pelago bikes in general. It is not without reason that we have made some cycling enthusiasts happy with the various models such as Hanko, Bristol, Brooklyn or Sibbo over the past two years.
We are happy to invite you to a great evening together with Pelago and Carhartt on the occasion of Streetday. You can look forward to a nice single-speed trip to the Düsseldorf area, almost 50 kilometers at a relaxed pace. Before the departure you can look at the Pelago bikes, three of you can then borrow the bike for the ride and test ride it.
Returning to the hat, there's yummy bites from the awesome Resi (Resi Tasty Baguette), a cold beer or two, and most importantly, Push to Pedal, the film that started the Carhartt and Pelago collaboration. Depending on the weather inside or outside.
So, put on your hat on August 19th, 2016 at 5:00 p.m., and at 6:00 p.m. we'll start rolling with our bikes. And when we come back around 8:00 p.m. we'll show the film. All those who don't have time for the lap on the bike beforehand are of course welcome to the film. And if the weather plays along, there is enough space in the yard to do a few laps with the board...
We look forward to you.
